I Couldn't Skate Today

After much brou-ha-ha about a session at Scalzi Park this afternoon, I got sidetracked by a landscaping project the ended up going entirely too long.

So anyways, I just drew pictures of how I envisioned it went down:

*BTW, in case you were thinking to yourself, "Gee he must have a lot of time on his hands to be drawing cartoons", you can rest assured they were done when I was at work.

Sparks-A New Short Film

Man, it feels good to use these cameras, lights, boom mics and c-stands to make something entertaining every once in a while. Despite a daunting workload on my plate, I assembled a few friends to work on a short film yesterday. They performed a stellar job. I'll try and get this thing edited and up on the internet as quickly as possible.

The working title of the film is "Sparks". Shot real simple, basically just a master shot, singles (and a cutaway to a copy of the New York Post). Thanks to boom op extrordinaire, Koch, for helping out. Check back here for a link to the completed movie in the next few days.

By the way, I think I'm gonna have to quit drinking. I bought some beers for last night's shoot. A 12 pack of Amstel Light was damn near 17 dollars! I mean, the prices in Lower Fairfield County have always aggravated me, but now I'm extra pissed off! Check out this dismal article from the very paper we used in our movie:

'WARM' BEER CRI$I$
ECO-THREAT TO ALES

April 22, 2008 -- High beer prices are on tap, and global warming could be to blame.

The environmental crisis has hit suds-lovers where it hurts most - at the bar and in the wallet - as prices of grains and hops soar, activists said yesterday.
"When we're trying to deal with young people, you have to define issues that are attractive to them, and this is something that's caught their attention," said Matthew Silverstein, president of the Queens County Young Democrats, which was set to host a "Save the Ales" forum last night on the impact of global warming on beer prices.
As global temperatures rise, radical shifts in weather and more parched lands are making it harder to grow grains and hops, activists and beer makers agreed.
Kelly Taylor, brewmaster for Kelso of Brooklyn beers, said his customers have paid between 10 and 15 percent more in the past year. He warned that more hikes are inevitable.
"I think prices are going to be going up every year - steep price increases," Taylor said. "My malt prices went up by 50 percent in one year."
Taylor, whose brewery is in Clinton Hill, said hops and grains were in short supply worldwide.
"We saw a drought in Australia, a bad harvest in Europe, flooding in Germany and hailstorms in the Pacific Northwest. Across the board, we saw significant rises in the price of grains and hops," he said.
The beer man chalked up the wild weather to global warming but said many of his customers don't take the issue seriously enough.
"Some people are just calling it a bad year," he said.

A bad year indeed. $6.00 for a pint? Kiss my ass. I'd rather drink tap water.

Busted by the Ex: The Whole Sordid Tale

Wow. I'll bet that picture got your attention, didn't it? The video is done and the record release party is all but a memory. (Pictures hopefully forthcoming) So now with no further ado, here is a link to the latest Boardlords video, "Busted by the Ex". Directed, shot and edited by yours truly. Check out the video here.
Not working? Grrrrr.... OK, here's the YouTube version.

I'm still pretty exhausted from the release party at the Thirsty Turtle in Stamford. The band was great, the new album is great, blah blah blah. We overcame some technical difficulties with the "video premiere" (AKA, a DVD with no audio track) Thanks to Gene for bailing us out of that mess in the 11th hour.

And of course, thanks to Koch, PDA, Kris and Doug for your lighting, photo and production assistance on this video. When's the next shoot? (Hello, I've become the king of the "low-no-deferred pay" productions, haven't you heard?)

Here are a few "behind the scenes" pictures from the video shoot which seems like a really long time ago:

Again, thanks to everyone for all their help.

Skatepark Re-Opens: Local Man Abandons Blog

Scalzi Park is open again, finally. Too busy skating and working to put up any new entries, but here are a few pictures. Enjoy! I've got tons more to put up, but Blogger is running real slow.

Photos by PDA.

Also, don't miss the Boardlord's record release party for the debut of the new video "Busted by the Ex", directed by yours truly.

That's it, I gotta run.
